The Flytes

the_flytes_logo The title track of this EP, “Waiting”, is as good a start as any of the demos this month – a tight, slick performance of uplifting chords and vocals. This song really is great, and doesn’t disappoint in any department. However, after this attention-catching start, the band and their tracks suffer from a lack of identity. The second track “Always on the run”, for instance, is a huge departure from the contemporary beat of the title track and sounds like it should be played over the closing credits of an American teen drama. “She’ll be mine” is just one chorus away from a really memorable tune, and the final two tracks tail off when they should really be providing a rousing finale. All the aspects of a great band are here, and I’m sure the live performances are fantastic – the overall “sound” just needs to be more refined and consistent.
