The Bunker are pleased to announce that local singer-songwriter and bunkeruk artist Natasha Haws has sold out her EP launch gig at Sunderland Minster on Saturday May 12th.
Ms.Haws signed to the bunkeruk label only a few months ago after a stratospheric rise to prominence in North East music over the past year. Set to release her debut EP on Monday May 14th despite only having been writing and performing her own music for less than 10 months, the seventeen year-old has earned an astonishing reputation for her beautiful and heart-breaking music, and the announcement last night of a sell-out of the 300 capacity venue, in her first headline show, is a mark of the impact she has had since found busking in a local pub.
Kenny Sanger of bunkeruk records said: "We are over the moon! It has not come as a big surprise to us considering the impact Natasha has had in such a short period of time in local music. We are very proud to have her on-board and we would like to thank our partners Independent [LIVE], who have organised the gig at the Minster and Kittle PR for their involvement in Natasha’s EP release campaign. Natasha is a brilliant talent and we are proud to be involved in the development of such a fantastic artist in the making. We also want to thank everyone who has bought a ticket to the gig, it’s is great to see the general public supporting music in Sunderland and one of their own".
A self-confessed “fingerpicky, sarcastic ear-pleaser”, Natasha’s disarming charisma and frank live performances have won her an army of fans across the North East and beyond.
A delighted Natasha Haws commented: “I am so unbelievably overwhelmed to have sold-out the Minster. The reaction of people who have attended my gigs or heard my music has been really positive but I could never have imagined I would sell out my launch two weeks before the date. I am a little nervous, but I can’t wait. I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has bought a ticket and also to The Bunker and Ben Wall at Independent [LIVE] for giving me this opportunity in an awesome venue”.
With a warm and distinctive vocal talent, and a wisdom and maturity that underlies her song-writing, South Shield’s native Natasha is already being pegged for big things. This year she has been invited to play alongside such established acts as Stephen Fretwell and Karima Francis, and has recently been called upon to play Newcastle’s Evolution Emerging and North Yorkshire’s Willowman Festival as well as a number of Summer Festivals across the UK. Natasha will play her first London show at The Bedford in June before dates in Manchester and Leeds.
The EP has been recorded and produced by Detroit Social Club’s Dave Burn and local artist Morris Ford, and will no doubt cement her place in the hearts and minds of every one who hears her. Opening the EP is ‘Stepping Stone’, a re-worked version of the original which introduced Natasha to the North East music scene with a bang. The EP also features ‘Happiness’, a surprisingly uplifting musical thesis on depression, and crowd favourite ‘Constant Fairytale’. All artwork and promotional material for the EP has been produced by Caroline and Kelly Briggs as well as merchandise designed by local illustrator Alice Hair.
The very special launch night for the EP will take place on Saturday 12th May at Sunderland Minster Church; a stunning, age-old building in the heart of Sunderland City Centre. Providing support on the night will be hotly-tipped local acts Reckoner and Arbeia. An after party will be held at Plugged Inn, with guest DJs The Futureheads & Lilliput taking celebrations through to 4am.
If you missed out on a ticket for the launch, please get in touch with The Bunker and we will inform you of any returns. Natasha Haws debut EP is available to pre-order now from her natashahaws.com now.
