Next week will see the kick off 12 months of music training workshops and employment initiatives at The Bunker! Starting 29th July, will see the launch of the Youth Music Academy which will look to provide up to 40 places throughout the year for young people across Sunderland to attend weekly music workshops. The Bunker has a rich history in developing youth in the local community, previously setting local acts The Futureheads and Field Music on the path toward establishing success in the music industry.
As well as targeting the youth of the community we will deliver 12 months of projects to anyone over 18 who is also unemployed,. This group will be eligible to take part in a series of music workshops covering a wide range of disciplines. The programme will have learning at their heart but will also include sessions for those looking to engage in new skills or activities that may otherwise have been unavailable to them.
Starting next week, our industry trained staff will deliver group guitar workshops, which will welcome participants of any skill level who enjoy any musical style, to join a group lesson down at Stockton Road. This will be the first of many skill based workshops throughout 2012.
Managing Director Kenny Sanger said, “This innovative approach helps to improve the confidence and motivation of the learner and helps move people toward a desire to look at employment options. This industry is massively overlooked in terms of employment opportunities, as people often feel it is not a viable option. However, our contact base is such that we are able to offer every attendee a placement at a local Creative Business within the city.”
This project will also include a Creative Arts Work club where we highlight progression routes and help identify potential Employment opportunities with specialist job search support and assistance within this industry. Each participant will develop the self-confidence and the skills necessary to look at job opportunities, produce a relevant CV, and facilitate a placement where they can experience the job for real to improve their chance of a career within the Creative industry. We will use our contacts to explore placements including Instrument tuition, DJing, Sound Engineering, Journalism, Radio Production, Social Media, Artist Management, Event Promotions, and many other supporting roles in the industry.
