With funding from the NHS Tyne & Wear's Safe Social Sensible Fund, we were able to continue our work to tackle alcohol abuse issues by using the medium of music related workshops, education and providing free resources to develop talents, skills and opportunities that people will want to remember the morning after. We will promote alcohol awareness and sensible drinking, rather than abstention from alcohol, by highlighting social norms, where individuals realise they do not need to abuse alcohol to fit into society.
Workshops cover a number of music industry related subjects, and also provide rehearsal space, otherwise unaffordable to some, to give aspiring musicians the opportunity to meet and play in an alcohol free environment. Taking part and utilising the free facilities highlights progression routes and enhances other education, employment and skills opportunities. Our staff have all attended accredited 'Brief Interventions for Alcohol' training so they will be better equipped to help deal with any problems the participants have.
